5 tips on how to develop your child’s critical thinking skills

Especially in this day and age when there are so many channels of information, we want children to be prepared to understand what information is true and what is not, whether on the internet or in real life.Inother words, we want to help them develop what is called critical thinking. At the “Online Image” workshop, as part of “What am I doing online?”, which I held yesterday, I invited children to find as much information about me, Oana Văideanu, as possible on the internet. I appear on different sites, many of them have my personal details, professional experience, etc. They had plenty of sources.

They searched, some found it easier, others more slowly, and started a debate about my age. How old am I? It didn’t say anywhere directly, it was just clues. Everyone drew their own conclusion, which was between 27 and 47. I asked each of them, obviously, how they arrived at that figure? Some explained that they had made calculations based on their professional experience, others shrugged their shoulders-Did you find that I have an 11-year-old child? -Yes-How old was I when I had the baby if I am now 27? Throw in more numbers yes it comes to 16 after all-What are the chances that I had a baby at 16? Is that an appropriate age? Here they have again given their opinion that it might be, they are not sure but I think not.

  1. Create opportunities for play.
  2. Wait.
  3. If he gets stuck, notice what he’s trying to do.
  4. Ask open-ended questions, such as: why did you choose to do this? What were you thinking?
  5. Help him develop scenarios: Do you think there are other possibilities?

This will give your child the opportunity to find his own solutions and I guarantee you will be very pleasantly surprised to see that they will work for him and for you. .……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..
