Last week I had the opportunity to give an interview aboutself-esteem in children. What is self-esteem? Confidence in one’s own strengths, which is mostly related to body confidence.Did you know that 80% of women answer that they don’t consider themselves beautiful when asked? We did a little test at the workshop and asked the children, girls and boys, on a scale of 1-10 about their confidence in their own strengths? The boys gave 9 and 10, the girls between 2 and 7.
What’s going on? They get the patterns we put them in. And they start to realize they’re “wrong”.“Why can’t you be like other girls?” Mom asks. “I should like to wear skirts and I want pants and climb trees,” Maria says to herself. What’s wrong with me?
.
read here what you can do to help your children be more confident. But now I’m off to a different story. When we finished the self-esteem workshop and video, Vlad and his friends all wanted to come over. That’s three more kids, two girls and a boy.
-I’ll drop you at home and take Diana to the subway.-I’m hungry, says Andreea.-We’ll eat shaorma, mami, can we have money? Vlad suggests.-I have the mousse in the fridge, you heat it up in the microwave and eat it.
I was really hoping they’d manage on their own, because I had a long day and didn’t feel like feeding four kids. I drop Diana off at the subway and get home in about 30 minutes. What were the kids doing?
I walk into the house, the table was set and all four of them were sitting around the table, plate of food in front of them, glass of water and bread.Vlad is just getting up.-You’re not a good mother, Luca says to Vlad, who seems to have taken his role as host seriously. The other children were “the children and he the mother”-I told you to give me the bread and you didn’t, and it took a long time before you put us all down-I tried, but it doesn’t go any faster. Vlad says and laughs, at the same time he looks at me and says:-It’shard to be a mother, you have a lot to do.-Yes! And then there are the disgruntled comments, after you’ve done your best to get everything right. I say.-That’s right! And they all start laughing, telling Vlad that he still did well in the role of mother.
In the evening in bed, Vlad takes me in his arms and kisses me and says:-I’ll be less dissatisfied, now I’ve seen how hard it istoprepare for everyone and think of everything. …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………For personalized programs to increase self-confidence and develop children’s social-emotional skills, please contact us at coaching@oanavaideanu.com or 0729039511, we welcome your requests and suggestions.
