Give a fairytale world – 11 libraries for children

Will you help us build the twelfth? Join us on Saturday 5 October from 11am to 7pm at the Children’s Comedy Opera. Instead of paying admission we encourage you to donate a book! Theeleventh Give A Fairytale WorldLibrary was made possible by donations from parents, children and generous companies. The campaign started in December 2018 at the initiative of EMOVERE Association, Butterfly Kindergartens and Kineto Bebe Association, with the support of Itsy Bitsy FM.At a time when public libraries across the country are running out of funds and many are closing, the community of parents and children in Bucharest is choosing to get involved and support the real need for books among children from all social backgrounds.Children from one of the largest rural schools, the Slobozia Bradului Primary and Secondary Public School (Vrancea), received a library as a gift through the Give a fairytale world campaign. More than 1600 children, mostly Roma, looked with emotion at the bags of books from other children who chose to be generous and help build a world of magic for the less fortunate.

Local authorities say the school is a phenomenon because of the large number of children who attend and are supported by the community. Such gestures of recognition encourage the youngsters to want a better future.

To make other social libraries possible, campaign organisers have created a charity eventwith the Comic Opera for Children, Giving a fairytale world in the fairytale setting of the opera’s courtyard. On Saturday 5 October, from 11:00 to 19:00, all children are welcome to a magical world where they will find their favourite books, story workshops, sports activities, meet the Apple Lady and the Fairy Fairy, create teddy bears or take part in puppet theatre.
