When I was little, I used to go with my parents every Sunday to a place we called “The Pit”. That’s where I learned pretty much everything I know now about spending leisure time in nature. Now we call it weekend camp!
As soon as we arrived, we started looking for firewood, thin fir wood for the fire and bigger dry wood for the fire pit. After this important action, we had a break for play. We would go to the river where we had built a dam to collect water so we could “swim”. Each time we had to rebuild it because every week some of the stones were washed away. We would spend an hour or two there before going to eat a snack.
After the snack, we’d head off into the woods again to find suitable wood to make spikes to roast bacon over the fire. The older ones were also allowed to carve them at the top. We little ones looked on in awe. After the meal it was football time. We would find two thicker sticks and stick them as goalposts and stones in the corner of the field. Nothing else was needed. Then we washed the dishes in the river. You know what cleans greasy dishes best? Sand from the riverbed.
When Vlad, my boy, and I did all these things, he was delighted to discover a different way of playing without having everything ready. So I came up with the idea of giving other kids the opportunity to discover what they can do with resources in nature, to get out of the “I’m bored if I don’t have a tablet and internet access” state through this weekend camp.
Send your child with us to move outdoors, giving them the opportunity to discover nature play! See below which camp suits him! Each camp will have activities for discovering and using nature’s resources, such as:
- Gathering wood for the fire and cooking food in the pot;
- Preparing a skewer for roasting bacon (and other products) over a fire;
- Building a playground by the river;
